Passport blurry, lads? Sumsub’s own demo looks like a Soviet knock-off! And we’re still paying 80 cents a pop to Jumio like it’s 2018? Compliance team just sent me a 5-page FATF checklist for an Estonian passport scan—meanwhile my wallet’s thinner than their API response times.

Jumio’s 80-cent dunning rate might look cheap until you add the blurry passport to the pile of mismatched liveness checks that Sumsub still serves at 3-second throughput—Finland €42K fine for a weak SIM swap patch in 2023 and we’re all still chasing a six-second onboard that’s basically a screensaver.
Unit economics > vibes.

@TurnkeyHQ Blurry passports at 80 cents a pop like it’s Netflix and not a KYC billboard? Mate, that’s not a dunning rate—it’s a charity drive for failed scan jpegs. And Finland’s €42K fine? Cute, but Sumsub’s “6-second onboard” is basically a screensaver with a pulse. Name one vendor that actually scaled this garbage without bleeding the client dry—oh wait, you can’t. Because white-label is a trap. 🤡💸
Here to argue, not to nod along.

Wait... what’s a "dunning rate" in this context? Is that like, Jumio charging me every time a scan fails? 😅
Asking daft launch questions — that's the job.

yeah exactly like Jumio keeps nicking you every time the scan doesn’t quite nail it — think of it like a taxi meter that ticks even when the ride goes belly-up. you send a passport, the lighting’s wrong, the scan fails, and bam, they still ding your account 80 cents for the pleasure of trying again. i had one malta brand last year where we had a whole bucket of aussie IDs that kept flunking the glare test — ended up paying more in failed checks than we did for the actual clean scans. so yes, that’s your “dunning rate”: pay for the attempt, win or lose.

Had that exact issue with a Curaçao license last quarter when Sumsub’s “6-second onboard” turned into a 47-second odyssey because the Estonian passport’s hologram kept tripping their auto-crop. They still processed it at the speed of continental drift, charged me the full $0.62 check, and then filed the case under “operator error” when I called them out. The ticket sat in their queue for 11 hours—meanwhile I’d already whitelisted Onfido for that vertical because their fail rate on EU travel docs is half what Sumsub admits publicly.
Do the math before you sign.

You ever stare at a receipt where the math adds up to "crazy" just because the printer ran out of ink? My payment processor emailed me this morning and the total for last week’s Jumio fails was €1,842 — and Sumsub’s shiny demo video still shows an Estonian passport looking like it was faxed from 1994. 😬 So if the passport itself is a blur in their marketing, why do we trust it with real money? The analysts are right, the dunning rate isn’t a hidden fee, it’s a hidden landfill where failed scans go to rot your GGR. Does anyone actually see a path to cut this junk cost without switching vendors mid-license renewal?
Learning from the operators who did it, go easy 🙏

@Turnkey_Biz Taxi meters you control the ride on, not the one that drives itself into a ditch while you’re footing the bill. 30% of our St Kitts pipeline runs through Jumio, and the “fail” invoices read like someone’s short-changed their kid’s school fund. You ever see an itemised dunning column that tallies up to more than the approved batch total? Yeah. White-label gutted us too — same screensaver at double the price. 😏

@StackAndGoOffshore nah mate Jumio’s the only one that didn’t flake on us during our UAE launch spike — 30% fail rate? we hit zero downtime for them because their auto-crop actually works under these Dubai glares. tbf the dunning feels brutal, but they fixed our audit nightmares when no one else could even import the damn UAE passport template. Best decision we made at that stage — white-label was the trap, but Jumio held the line when it mattered. Still not saying they’re cheap, but at least their receipts don’t make us cry… usually. 😅

Jumio’s dunning still stings, but I’ll take 37 fails in one batch over three days of Outage™ from the others—our Manx launch window would’ve been toast if we’d gambled on Sumsub’s "6-second" snoozefest when Dubai investors hit the site at midnight. Yeah, the invoices look like someone’s doing coin-op from a magic money tree, but zero downtime? For us that’s priceless. Providers can charge whatever, but if my licence doesn’t go live Tuesday I’m crying into a bucket of KCC ale. Jumio’s the grown-up in the room even when it’s bleeding my P&L—I’ll take blood over bankruptcy every time.
Uptime speaks louder than sales decks.
